Biography (short)

Hooshyar Khayam (b. 1978, Bedford) is an Iranian-British musician. He is active as a composer, pianist, teacher, and producer. His music is in contemporary classical, fusion/world music, and in music for film and theater.

Finalist of the “Queen Elisabeth International Composition Competition (2013), first prize award winner of “Franz Schubert and Modern Music International Composition Competition (2011), finalist of the Mauricio Kagel International Composition Competition (2013); and selected “Top of the World Albums” by Songlines.

Prior to founding his own label, Khayam worked with Hermes Records alongside a few other publications on solo and collaborative albums. Khayam founded Tehran Records in 2015 to produce and to promote music of Iran today, and to to bring attention of the audience in Iran towards other musical genres and literature.

Khayam has BM in Persian Music from University of Art in Tehran; AD in Piano Performance from Trinity College of London; MM and DMA in Composition from College-Conservatory of Music Cincinnati. He lives in Tehran.
